Remembering Martin Joseph "Marty" Danaher
June 11, 1946 – June 21, 2020
The recent loss of Marty Danaher to cancer was felt not only by his family and by his friends but also by all in the NSBRC who had the privilege of knowing him and working with him for the betterment of our city over almost a decade.
Marty founded Citizens for Smart Growth in response to a project planned for the North Causeway that would have been a disaster due to its proximity to the heart of historic Canal Street and old Fort Park. He used his well honed marketing skills to organize a large group of citizens to protest the plan and was successful in doing so.
When the NSB Residents’ Coalition was formed some years later, Marty was always a source of support for the Coalition’s mission to protect and preserve our city’s special character, environment and quality of life.
We are grateful for Marty’s most recent effort on behalf of the city as a member of the Charter Review Committee. As always, he was an advocate during these meeting for accountability of government leaders to the electors and for the preservation of our city’s historic charm. Marty will always live in every tree, flower and patch of clean water in our beautiful town.
